Many Moods of Mt. Baker Wilderness

I arrived at my campsite late afternoon on Saturday. The thunder was crackling and the lightning was lighting up a very gloomy sky. The rain was heavy and the visibility was poor. I stayed in my tent until the storm let up a little. I then hiked up to a high point and captured some moody shots and a relative nice sunset image of Baker. I then hiked back in the dark with a headlamp. The next morning I took a sunrise image and then headed back down to the parking lot. I didn't get a lot of images, but here are the ones I thought were worth sharing.

All images taken with the Olympus E-620 and Olympus 9-18mm (18-36mm equivalent) or the 70-300mm (140-600mm equivalent) lens.

The light might not have cooperated like you wanted, but it gave you some really nice fog to work with in the first two shots (my two favorites of the series). Great set anyway though. Where were you camped?

Thanks, Ron! It was a bit scary with all that lightning, but I survived and brought back a handful of decent images. I'm glad you enjoyed 'em. :D

Thanks, Ron! Fog was pretty much all I got that evening. You know what they say about getting lemons and making lemonade. :D

I camped at the Railroad Grade campsite.

The first thing I noticed is that you have a lot of varied photos with color and scene. It goes from dramatic to serene. Depending on how I felt at the time would determine which would be my fave!! They are all beautiful.

Excellent job! Given the conditions, I really admire your grit and determination to ride out the storm for the shots. thumb.gif I'd be happy to have any of those in my collection.

15524779-Ti.gif with Bryan: "Epic" is the perfect word!

I just adore the b/w shots. I've scarcely seen better mountain/fog abstracts than these.

#2, 4, and 5 are my favorites but #5 is my absolute favorite. Just love the meandering trail throughout the composition. thumb.gif

    Love the colors in #3!

    Stephanie

Thanks, Stephanie! It was kind of scary at the fire lookout, seeing all that beautiful scenery before me. Then I saw a little glow in the distance of the sunset, and I felt at peace. :D

Thanks, Eia! I didn't expect to get as many "good" photographs as I think I managed from this trip. The weather the first evening was pretty bad, but I'm glad to have had the experience. At least now I know that my backpacking gear is pretty tough. :D

Thanks, James! The storm was a little scary, but also very beautiful at the same time. The fast moving clouds almost looked like angles dancing through the mountains and my campsite.

Thanks, Schmoo! The contrast of the dark mountain shades and the light clouds were perfect for b&w conversion, I thought. I'm glad you agree. :D

Thanks, Steve! You know, #5 isn't as popular among my friends as the others, perhaps because it doesn't have any grandiose mountains or moody fog in it, but I like it for it's compositional merits. I'm so glad you like it as well. wings.gif

Thanks, Dan! The weather was "interesting" to say the least. However, it did allow me to get somewhat unique shots of the region. I'm glad you enjoyed the shots. :D

Wow, really lovely series Mahesh. Hard to pick a fav although I really like the blue "smoky mountain" look image, I love the lines and the haze/fog. Also the reflection in the lake is a beautiful capture. Well done.
