Pricing advice

I have two situations on which I need pricing advice.

Situation No. 1:

A D.C. lobbying firm has hired me to do the photography for its new web site. It included portrait work of about 15 staffers and selections of pictures from around the D.C. area. Assuming that the client wants non-exclusive rights to about five pictures plus all the portraits, what is a fair amount to charge? Keep in mind that I will have spent about five or six excursions in the D.C. area taking pictures.

Situation No. 2:

A Web design couple want to use a picture for a client's new Web site. They want EXCLUSIVE rights to the picture. I would retain the copy right.

Thanks for your help!

I don't know much, so these numbers are what I'd expect a well-established pro in my area might charge. I know nothing about the D.C. scene. Forums tend to say pricing is a personal decision and very individual--because it is--but I can't stand when I get that type of answer. So this answer may not be right, but it is an answer.

Oh, and how have they hired you without a price in mind?

    $50/staffer = $750
    $100/photo = $500
total = $1250 (maybe $800, maybe $2000 depending on how valuable your name is)

$500. Largely depends on how well-heeled that client is; that number could be much, much smaller. Think about the micro-stock business and how cheap photos go there.
Please don't mistake my blunt, pointed posts as my being "angry," "short," or "rude."
