Is this a borer beetle of some kind?

This bug was nice and cooperative until I tried to get him face on...
My book has nothing that quite matches, but the closes are borer beetles. Anyone know what this is?

Looks distantly related to the Spotted Asia Longhorn beatles invading our trees here in Worcester, MA. ButvI am no expert.

Thanks folks. I think its antennae are shorter than those of a longhorn. I looked up a lot of images of both ground beetles and borers and did not find a perfect match. There are LOTS of species of both. I think years ago E. O. Wilson said something like, "If there is a God, she has an inordinate love of beetles." The one I found looks a lot like some ground beetles, e.g., http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/icm/files/images/carabid-I2_0.jpg, but it lacks clear striations on its wing covers and has a much smaller thorax (front to back). Some borers match those characteristics, but I could not find one to match.
