What is the best uploading tool for huge quantities of images (hundreds or thousands)? It must resume where the upload left off if the network is interrupted or computer is shut down. I have always used an ftp tool for this sort of upload to other sites. I am not satisfied with the uploading tools currently offered through smug because they upload duplicate images if the transmission is interrupted.

I've uploaded more than 35,000 photos totaling 85GB with it. You can upload to multiple galleries at once in one giant unattended upload and the upload queue is bulletproof, even saving the upload queu to disk so it can resume your upload the next time you start it up. Any images that encounter upload errors just stay in the upload queue when it's done. You configure the number of retries on error, the pause before retry, etc...

Never had an issue with failed connections, so I don't know how fault tolerant it is...

I've reiterated the need for more robust upload tools for some time now. I still have YEARS of photos that are not on SM because of this.

On my Mac, when I have lots of images to upload, I use.... StarExplorer. As jfriend suggested, it has no peer when it comes to large uploads and resuming when disconnected. There is simply nothing like it.
So on the Mac, there is no replacement, therefore, I have not replaced it. I simply run Windows on my Mac when I need StarExplorer. I run it within a virtual Windows installation using VMWare Fusion, but you could run it from the Mac in Boot Camp. VMWare provides the ability for Windows and therefore StarExplorer to see all my folders on the Mac, so it is extremely seamless and StarExplorer has no idea it is talking to a Mac.
This also works with VirtualBox (free) in case any one is wondering. I have only run under XP, I have not tested Win7 RC, but I bet Nik has tried it.
