Benefit of linking a gallery to a community?

I was linking my galleries to a community hoping for more visability thus increasing sales.

I found out that Galleries associated with a community will either be smug default, or community default. They will not show my banner - i.e. my name will not appear at the top of galleries with a linked community.

If this is the case, what is the benefit of linking a gallery to a community?

I came to this forum with the same question. I also wanted to "strut" my site to the community, but whatever I do, I lose the customized look of my site. My banner is gone and replaced by the Smugmug logo, and I get the footer below which I don't want. It looks kind of weird because it does not reflect the theme of my site at all and follows the default theme of Smugmug. Why does one have to conform with the default when you work so hard to customize your own? Is there a code to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

Just more exposure, and more interaction with fellow photographers.

No. A gallery can be assigned to only one community.

From the help page at http://www.smugmug.com/help/communities:
At the bottom of your Customize Gallery page, any communities you've joined will appear in a pull-down menu. Choose one.

What are communities most used for? It is clear that they don't meet the needs of pros because of the loss of customization so I'm wondering what they are mostly used for? Anyone know?

Folks get interaction via comments in this one. NOT perfect by any means at all and there's a lot we'd love to do to improve communities - we just haven't gotten to it yet.

    OK, I see. I guess it's sharing as part of a group in a non-commercial, non-branded way.

Communities could be a lot more than they are, but no arguments here on doing a lot of other things first.
