Can I Link to Another Gallery Site?

I have a friend who recently opened an online art gallery, for all types of art. There is a quarterly themed exhibition and a limited number of artists are chosen to display their work online. The artist is responsible for printing and shipping anything that is sold, and the gallery owner gets a commission.

Is this something I could publicize on DGrin? I think some of our members would most certainly be competitive!

Thanks,
Lauren

    Hi Lauren,

If your links are relevant, I see no reason why you can't link to another artist's work. However, if you're linking for the purpose of creating sales, that's not OK.

    Ian-

Indirectly, I guess I am linking for the purpose of generating sales. But they aren't my sales. The link would be to a site where artists can submit work to be considered for a quarterly on-line exhibit. Items that are exhibited by that site are made available for sale; the artist produces and ships the work and the on-line gallery owner (the web site owner) gets a commission.

IMO, there are photographers on DGrin who would be very competitive for those on-line exhibits. I thought this would be a good opportunity for members to obtain exposure to their work via an additional web site.

I hope this makes it clearer as to what the site is and what my purpose is. PLMK what you (or others) think.

    Thanks,
    Lauren

That's too bad, but I understand. Thanks for the quick response!

Edit: On second thought--I have seen an occasional post from other DGrinners offering workshops where they charge a fee. Also have seen posts announcing various events of interest to members. What is different about my request? I guess I could use more clarification.
    Thanks.

I'm still hoping for some better understanding of why I can't post info about this gallery opportunity.

Is it something I could post in the Flea Market?

    Thanks,
    Lauren

I'm not sure I can offer the definitive answer for you but the difference between the various things you outline above is

    a) those things that our own members do and/or offer to other members
    b) making fellow members aware of general interest events related to photography

what you're wanting to do for your friend amounts using your status here to advertising for her, a third party.

since there's no advertising at dGrin or smugmug may be the reason for the earlier response.
