Bottle Top

Seen something like this somewhere once and thought "I quite like the simplicity of that" so I decided to try my own version.

Simple set up. Light from the window, 50mm @ 1.8, focus on the top of the bottle, get good bokeh, improve bokeh with a selective guassian blur layer on everything below the neck and then covert background into black and white, leaving the neck of the top of the bottle in the original "glass" colour.

WDYT abstract fans?

I like this shot a lot - I've done something similar before with a wine bottle and cork. I am all for the crazy-narrow DOF and love the simplicity of the shot. I would move it to the left just a touch more if possible. Could you post a version that is all color instead of partially in color and partially BW? I'd be curious to see the difference.

nice, actually been playing with the idea of bringing macro more into the world of man made objects (i live in the city so you have to be creative with that :D ) like your concept, on this non calibrated monitor it could even be a bit lighter/whiter rolleyes1.gif

This is one of my favourite shots of Pauls. Love the narrow DoF.

It's shallow, yet you can still clearly see it's a bottle :)

Interesting. Until I read some of the text and saw the original, I thought it was a small jar sitting on a white surface casting an interesting shadow rather than a bottle rim and the blurred body of the bottle.

I like the end result, but maybe a bit more substance to the body of the bottle.
