Senior Photos - Male
Trying to move away from weddings and into portraiture. This is my nephew.
I was actually most worried about this most basic of shots. I didn't get asked for a "yearbook" shot until I got there. I don't do "studio shots" -- don't have backdrops or lights. Then I remembered the "kneeling, f1.8" trick.
Anything can become a background -- as the grass in the backyard did in this photo.
FYI - he has heavy acne and I used Portrait Professional 9 on the faces in these photos.

The BW car shot, I'm not digging it. He's too far back for me.
River shot as well, zoom in a bit. You can barely see his face. It might also be your border here.
The bottom one, great "studio" shot I think. He really stands away from the grass. Maybe that's a bad thing , maybe not. I like it.
If he does have heavy acne, then your PP is awesome. Seems natural to me.
I thought of that -- particularly as there's not much of interest to the left. However, I didn't want his head to be any closer to the top of the frame.
I like to have a variety of looks. Some with him close and some not. What I like is him looking off into....what? One wonders.
I just love the framing of the tree and the branches too much to crop this photo. I'm not even all that fond of the his posture or expression. But I love the lighting of the photo. I did take a different shot more to your suggestions.
Now in this one the flash failed so I a very dark subject. Having shot raw I processed one image optimized to the background and one optimized for him and then combined them. It's not perfect, but it's the best I could do.
I'd hope that folks wouldn't even notice that it's grass
Portrait Professional does a great job,

I probably wouldnt have, but you did mention it.
I appreciate the time you gave to provide feedback.
I did another of the car shots, this one emphasizing his pride and joy.
