Not dust, but a bright green speck...

Hey guys,

Just signed up a few days ago and have been reading the forums quietly. I find jumping in headlong after signing up rubs people in the wrong way.

I've got a slight situation with my Canon 300D. There's a bright white/greenish speck that shows up on long exposures, slightly above the centerline of the CCD. I'm *really* afraid that it's some kind of dead pixel, because it doesn't look like dust or anything.

Thoughts? This affects me greatly because my primary photowork is theatre & dance photography, mostly in dark scenes, so I'll have to photoshop every single image if I can't get it fixed. Luckily the camera is still inside warranty, so I can send it back, but I'll be cameraless for a while. (maybe an excuse to find a cheap 20D... I think J&K cameras in the US was selling them for 799$USD... any of you guys want to receive one for me and ship it up here?)

Thanks from an already grateful canuck! (If you'd like to see some of my work, see the link in my profile. I'll be posting it in the "MYOB" forum for ripping later.)

Welcome to Dgrinclap.gif I have no advice on the green spot but, I would stay clear of J&k camera. Check out this list of not so reputable stores:

    http://www.panix.com/~donwiss/pictures/BrooklynStores/

J&K is listed on there, scrool down to the J's. Also check www.resellerratings.com I believe that is the right address.

Anways good luck on getting rid of the green spot.

Welcome to dgrin. DOn't hold back - jump right in. We try to be a friendly lot.

Regarding the green spot - can you post a few images demonstrating it - just type --- [img*]http URL of image[/img*] without the asterisk and the image will display so we can see it too?

It does sound like it might be a bad pixel - I had a Nikon 995 that only showed a couple of green pixels with long exposures, so.... If that is the case, get it to Canon while it is still under warranty.

There go my hopes of getting a 20D for cheap...

    Thanks for the warning though.
