Nice sharp picture of the bird. My thoughts are that this challenge is about people portraits, but I do not know if I am right about this. This certainly is a portrait of the bird, in its environment.

Secondly, the angle of the picture bothers me a bit. Do you have an upright, rotated version?

I'd also like to see this upright along with a tighter crop.
    Creativity's hard.

Definition of a portrait from wikipedia:

"A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person...."

15524779-Ti.gif I think I'm starting to get confused about this challenge!

I think this could qualify as a portrait it you really, really cropped.

So only people no pets. Birds, animals, politicians? Well, I would disagree, this definition is from the days of kings. Pet portraits are very common. This Internet definition would not apply here anyway, just a shot with eyes alone would not show what is ask. This shot would not be a good entry but it did what it was supposed to do. I would say this shot is what is ask for. Portraits are not just for 2 legged animals.

Sunny would also go along with me, maybe even purr.

You are very right about the angle it is in easy terms --very bad
The angle of this shot was for a very good reason. I took 2 shots and the angle I was on and the trees would only give me this. I will not push my friends just for a shot, if I had moved in they [her and her bro. or sister feeding together] would fly and maybe leave the meal. So I back away, never make an animal lose a meal!
I did once years ago and it still makes me sad. I was stupid. The kill dies for no reason and someone goes hungry!

Thank you all for the feed back but I think the leader needs to say people or deal.gifheadscratch.gif

You can adjust the angle in post processing fairly easily without changing anything else if you aren't a fan of post-processing.

Ha, ha, I know you are right, Jeff, rolleyes1.gif but I think you should still ask here for clarifications on the theme:

Jeff, I tend to agree with you on this one...

I also think that the rotation is a bit extreme, but that's just me. Do you have more image so that you could perhaps rotate it?

Two questions... What was that before he dined on it? and is he going to buy a print from you???

Tatiana I did and the answer was it does not have to be a person but I think as I read the response human was the intent. So if it is non-human it better be good :D not an angled hawk with a rabbits foot

Mark hint the luck [in the title] it was a rabbit, at the time I took the 2 shoots I thought it was a snake. When I got home the computer told me to look closer next time.

Buy a print headscratch.gifeek7.gif the hawk came to the truck as I was leaving asking for 2 squirrels for the photo op deal.gif had I know then it was a rabbit and not a snake I would have only paid one mouse :D

Well, it will be the most interesting entry of them all, and if this doesn't make us open up our minds on the theme, I don't know what will...
