equality in number of formal poses

Do you strive to get an equal quality of poses of the bride and bridesmaids as you do for the groom and groomsmen? Or do you get more of the brides and bridesmaids? OR, do you just get whatever works?

I am shooting a wedding tomorrow and planning my poses out (with the knowledge that I am being flexable and could change) and find that I have more ideas for the bride and bridesmaids shots, posed and less posed type of shots, vs for the guys. Of course guys are usually my problem anyway, but I am finding scanning various galleries for inspiration that there's seem to be more shots of girls than guys, just in general.

For the most part, pics are for the bride, more than the groom, so having more shots of her that look good is generally ok right?

To be clear I am not talking about doing just five of him and 50 of her, just that there are some cutesy shots, like bridesmaids shoes etc, that only work for the girls, there's not much of an equivilant for guys.

Cufflinks, groomsmen's shoes in a row. Guys usually aren't into it as much as the ladies, but you can still coax some cool shots out of them.

I almost always shoot more of the bride and entourage than the groom and entourage........for guys it fun, prankster shots also......bur cutesy can work also...just mention bride might like......remember who you work for.......DA BRIDE.....or her mother........................

Whatever works...honestly it depends on the guys...if they are a fun bunch that wants to cooperate I will shoot as much of them as I do of the girls, if they are drunk pricks I make sure I get a picture of them.

Cufflinks shot, that's one I hadn't thought of. I don't know if I am going to have time to do it, but if I do I might give it a shot!

I have several ideas, I just had more ideas for the bride and her girls. But, as Art posted it is very much DA BRIDE AND her mom that I am working for.

I am fairly certain that the groom and his guys will do what I ask....getting expressions might be a different story. When I did the engagement session for the two, the groom made it VERY clear he was only there because the bride wanted him there.

My other concern is my time schedule...bride and groom are not seeing each other before the wedding, the reception starts 30 minutes after the ceremony. So I have to sqeeze everything that includes the bride and goom together, from shots of just the two of them together to the entire bridal party-which oh by the way, includes TEN children, half of them age 6 or younger, all in those 30 minutes.

Blurmore that is so funny, right on .....but funny.

The trick with guys, either get a very cute girl to get them to pose...then they are all about the pictures....or get them to come up with their own ideas for the shots.
Otherwise they pretty much stand there, that is what guys do.

I shoot the girls for 20 minutes the guys for 5 usually....appx.

My last wedding I opened their door when they were dressing, just stuck the camera in and ripped off about 10 shots of them half dressed, then shut the door. Now that is some funny stuff!!!

I actually wish that our wedding photographer had taken more of the guys, so I guess I'm unusual? My husband also loves photography and also would have liked more getting ready and posed shots with his guys... But I have noticed that we're probably not like your average couple when it comes to photos. :)

With the guys, I think more silly or action movie than cute. James Bond. Mafia (The Godfather, Goodfellas, etc). Maybe superheroes or video game. That type of thing.

Groom in center, walking with his entourage on either side of him. With and without sunglasses, if possible.

All the guys posing as though they're spies, holding imaginary guns.

Jumping shots would be good for them, I think.

All of them pointing at the camera.

Standing with crossed arms & serious "don't mess with me" expressions.

Maybe something that shows them trying to help the groom runaway and/or keep him FROM running away?

Groomsmen holding the groom up (groom "laying down").
We did this since my husband had photos of him being held up by his friends after he graduated college... Except me & my bridesmaids held HIM up and he & his groomsmen held ME up. There are some great shots of us girls as we're busting up laughing trying to hold him up and our shoes are sinking into the grass. There are even a few where one of the groomsmen came into the shot to help us.

good luck....don't stress...if you are a woman, the guys will be nice to you, if you are cute...you'll have NO problem, if you are cute and single...you may have a BIG problem.
