I am trying to learn flash photography through the strobist's methods. Please tell me what you think of these and any other comments relating to this that may not be related to light.

Thanks. What do you not like about the second one? The post-processing or the lighting or the expression?

    1. I really, really love her expression - an almost Mona Lisa smile going there! I love the high constrast conversion, though I wonder if a slightly softer touch would be better? ne_nau.gif The exposure looks very good, the angle of the light, there appears you got come light reflected back from camera left for fill. I like the extent of the empty (negative?) space on the right. Posing, I'm not liking the edge on to her should look so much - it's putting a bit too much tension in her pose. Love the clarity of the eyes. Angle of the main light might be a little low.
    2. Again, the angle of the light might be a touch low. Love the eyes and her smile. Not sure where she's looking - almost has a feel that she's looking well beyond the camera. But you've good light, good fill, the shadows are there without being too strong. I think the bright area in the upper left corner is a bit of a distraction.
The B&W is hands-down, no contest a much better photograph.
