These ducks were at Herring Pond, Eastham, Mass., this afternoon. I think they're mottled ducks, but not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I thought so too. But there were no obvious males in the group. Do mallards travel in segregated gender groups?

I have been seeing very large groups with out a drake....unless there are drakes that are just so young they have not finished getting proper colors.......

Mallards one Drake and one hen. Drake is either a juvenile or is still eclipse plumage after the molt. But you can tell from the yellow bill. Female has the darker bill. In that area a Mottled or Black duck could be, but it has the white bars on the speculum on the wing which makes it a mallard
