New Sharing Interface...
The new sharing interface has added more steps. It would be more efficient if all the options were available on a single page, instead of tabbed.
It becomes time consuming when posting more than one photo.
No, not temporary But we'll be defaulting to photos on the first tab, and then cookie'ing your last-used tab so you'll be getting to the place you most use when you use the feature.
Share menu needed in more places
You cannot share (get a link) from photos in the keywords or most popular "galleries".
Keywords are a nice way to organize and access your photos. When I want to share one I naturally go there rather than leafing through many pages in my galleries looking for it. But there is no share menu on keywords Right now I have to find the photo in the keywords, then click on the "see photo in gallery" link, then pull down the "share" menu to get a link, and (temporarily ) select the "Photo Links" tab to finally get there.

It's actually under discussion here at SmugMug, this very thing - can't make any promises yet but Scott's brought it up in pretesting already.
Love the sharing and Get a Link features but could I add a feature request to please put a quick shortcut button for "Get A Link" for the current photo in a gallery? The shortcut link could default to Medium size or whatever.
Right now it takes a lot of clicks to get one link and getting several links is nearly unbearable
I count 4 clicks - 1) click Share 2) click get a link 3) click the size 4) click back to go back to the gallery
A nice improvement in some respects but there are still more clicks than necessary. And wasn't that the OP's point?
I've already said, photo tab will be presented first - then we'll also add a cookie to remember your last used tab so that if you use blog links mostly, when come back, you get those first.
Same number of clicks as the old way, but with 4x the functionality.
Putting all the links on one page would work just as good. Duh, I know how to
scroll down to see all the different links.:D Is that so difficult to understand?
I think moving to a horizontal vs vertical presentation of the options is the way to go. Screen sizes are expanding horizontally, not vertically. Scrolling is going to become an antiquated form of web page design imo.

Great solution, and great new features. I'm sure my visitors will play with them.

Exactly. Same number of clicks as the old way which, as the OP initially stated, is too many. It's funny that a company that won't allow us to go more than 3 levels deep of hierarchy (in our galleries) because "people don't like to click that many links" is willing to make us click a bunch of links in exchange for 4x the functionality.

So you want it ajaxy on the gallery page, is that it?

That would be awesome.
But I'd be happy with something far more simple:
For example - I click on the share button and the drop-down menu has three options: "Send an e-mail," "Get a Link," and "Quick Link." The first two would continue to function as they do now (which is great, by the way) but if I click "Quick Link," a link to the medium-size* image that I'm currently viewing is immediately copied to my clipboard.
This takes me from 4 clicks to 2 and I don't have to do any waiting for a new page to load to get the link on my clipboard.
* You could make this large or whatever size is most used. For me it's medium. Bonus points if the size it gives me can be set in my control panel!

Though I think you'll find as many people complain that they'd rather have the gallery tab first or the embedded tab or the feed or. . . .
So maybe your first suggestion of remembering the last tab would work the best for the most people.
In any case, thanks for be flexible and listening.

Great tip - makes getting an embeddable link even easier.
Thanks for this update

Andy,
Sorry I missed the existing topic.
I just skimmed over this thread and I'm not sure about the sharing feature. Is the new one just temporary? If so, what is the plan for the final one?
Thanks,
John

When will this happen?
When we do our next release, I hope. It's done internally, awaiting a live site push. Soon.
