I'm getting HTTP 500 errors when I try to go to my site-wide-customization page in my control panel on both accounts I have.

These things happen. Thanks for the update. When it comes to communicating with their customers, smugmug is so much better than pbase.

Site's back up in Read Only mode right now. Engineers are working on restoring other functions.

    How much more of this?!
Am I the only one fed up with the constant outages on Smugmug lately?

I have been using Smugmug for 9 months now, signed up as pro user. I have enjoyed the site tremendously, I have had several of my friends and fellow photographers sign up as well on account of my good references. I love the unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, the fact that my clients can purchase prints directly from my site with out me having to deal with anything. I also LOVE the fact that I only pay $150 (or what ever it is now) for all of this, my old host could not come close to these features for that price.

But this weeks constant outages of the site has just about made me ready to give it all up and go with some one else. Tonight is the third time since Friday that I have attempted to log into Smugmug to upload photos or mess with a gallery just to find out that the site is down. And this has also happened outside of the service window time frame or what ever they want to call it. It also happened twice in July, the only two times I attempted to make any changes to my site.

Is this a sign of things to come? Any one else fed up with this?

I'm fed up with it, I don't like it either. I'm a working pro too.

I do know that our engineers are trying their best to make these issues go away. We're constantly improving things - so that in the future the site will be more robust.

I'm sorry for today's issues. It's not the norm.

No. This is an anomaly. Smuggy is the best thing going. Period. Sure, there are hiccups. But the overall, long-term health of SmugMug is second to none. Hang in there.

Not sure how much it's been down, but I've tried updating my site Friday night, Saturday morning, and again this evening and have yet to be able to. You're not the only one frustrated by it.

I'm pretty fed up with it, that's for sure. I run a business utilizing smugmug's hosting and purchase infrastructure, and when smugmug is down, my business is down. I'm not a photographer, but I receive photos taken at various events like running races and triathlons. I index them, use the API to upload them, and provide a website where participants can specify their criteria of what they're looking for. Then Smugmug takes over and displays the appropriate photos, and participants purchase them if desired.

So, not only am I not earning money because no one is buying photos while smugmug is down, but I am generating a backlog of photos for events this weekend that I am unable to get loaded.

Smugmug provides great functionality, that's for sure. But, their SLA is pretty miserable. I work for a company that hosts SAAS solutions. This stuff shouldn't happen in a mature company with proper testing and deployment procedures.

Come on, Smugmug. Step it up. I'm rooting for you, but too much of this will bury you.

THose are almost the exact same times we have been trying to do some work to our site.

I hope that these are just hiccups. We have gone months when we havent updated our site, and now as business is finally picking up and we have had the need to update it on a regular basis, maybe I did catch it at a bad time.

No...you're not. I don't know how constant the outages are, but I haven't been able to upload anything all weekend when I've tried, and that's bad. I realize Smugmug is generally pretty reliable, but when the site is down it affects the productivity of my business, especially at this time of year.

I hope they get it fixed soon.

    grumble.

I'm rooting for us, too. We don't like it any more than you do. I'm really sorry about this. The silver lining is that we always come out stronger, faster and better from issues like this.

This is not normal, it's the exception rather than the rule - of course, it's Sunday night, our busiest (folks want to upload!). Bad timing.

Sorry for the hassles tonight, folks.

I hope what you said is true HoyBoy. I was refereed by a good friend to this site and just signed up. Already experienced twice the outrage, not a very good first impression.

I'm getting more than a little frustrated with Smugmug's outages also. I began using it a couple months ago and have been very impressed with the features and customer service it offers for the price I pay for it. However, if the site is not fully functional, I am not getting all I paid for of course. Although I cannot know for sure, it is possible that its growth is overcoming its current capacity. I hate to say it but offering unlimited bandwidth and storage along with a wonderful feature set for a wonderful price is not always a good thing in the long run. However I am optimistic that Smugmug will overcome this challange and continue to match its growth with its capacity to grow. That's my opinion anyway. :rutt

I've been SM for a few years now and have literally hundreds of GB online with them. While their outages have become more frequent, so have the features and capabilities. I would simply call these 'growing pains.' And the resolution of these issues usually works without further issues.

There have been times when I've been fed up with not being able to upload, but this could be the same issue with almost any service provider. It's not unheard of in the industry. I say 'hold the course'. thumb.gif The good thing is that there are pros like Andy that are both what we are and on the inside. That gives them the ground level feedback to help SM make the best decisions both for itself, and us.
