This is my first post here, and my first post on any photography forum.

I'm nowhere near the level of what I see on those pages but I hope to learn from some of the amazing photography that I have seen in the past 30 minutes of lurking.

Here are some attempts of mine.

Thanks for looking!

    Welcome to the forum.
Not an expert on this style of photography but these look excellent to me. Wonderful lighting and detail.
Only criticism would be the number of pics in one post- suspect it would have been better to split into 2 posts.

Thanks for the feedback Brian, I will keep that in mind the next time I post. thumb.gif

I'm not an expert at pretty much anything either and all of those pics are about 3 years old.

I'm trying to venture into photographing people next.

Can you please explain your lighting set up for these shots, iso, f/stop, etc.? Very nice set of images.

Don't belittle yourself friend, you are very good at what you do. In fact, IMHO, these shots are advertisement level, and portfolio level too! You are WAY better then me! Can't wait to see some of your portrait shots!

I did my first ever portrait shots on Sunday. I will post some in the appropriate forum.

You can see my first attempts by following this link.

Thanks again for the kind words.

All of the shots above were taken with a Nikon D50 using either no set up at all other than a table tripod or a cheap light box from American Recorder.

The lens used was the cheapest macro lens I could find, a Sigma (Quantaray) 60mm f/2.8 1:1 ratio lens. I think I paid 300 bucks for it brand new.

I love watches, and that's how I started taking pictures and learning Photoshop. It's really just try after try after try, and I can now somewhat reliably come up with a good shot.

Settings... I always go for the lowest available since the watches do not move. I usually pull the crown out to stop the second hand from moving since some of those have 5..6...7 seconds exposure time. The crown gets pushed back in digitally in Photoshop.

F stop... there is NO DOF when shooting from 4 to 5 inches so I end up shooting as high as f/32 to get the whole watch in focus.
