Hi, i will be traveling from Canada to California tomorrow, as my first time traveling with my gear i want to confirm that you can bring your camera bag on as well as a carry on bag. I saw somewhere of a regulation sheet of some kind that confirmed this.

can anyone show me this sheet or just confirm with me that yes you can bring your camera gear in addition to your carry on.

Thanks

In my experience in the US, the airlines don't have any specific guidelines for cameras. The only rule that you is that you may only have one large carry-on that will fit in the overhead luggage storage area, and one smaller one that will fit under the seat in front of you. It's up to you to partition your stuff into those two bags as you see fit.

I carry my large Tamarac Expedition 7 with two camera bodies and and four lenses in it along with a brief case carrying 2 laptops and security has never given me any trouble.

    Well, that's probably because you're 6'5", 240 lbs. rolleyes1.gif

I have a backpack camera bag that I use and have never had any issues with it. Once they asked me to turn the camera on (still & video) so they could see it was operational but this last trip to Grand Cayman not a word was said about.

You should not have any issues whatsoever.

You shouldn't have any major problems provided that both your carry-on and camera bag fit within the airline's and/or the airport's regulations. You can check for details on dimensions on both the airport's website and the airline's website. I had problems with my rolling Tamron bag, but none with my Think Tank back pack (other than too much stuff, too much weight and VERY sore shoulders:)

    Have a good trip.

I just got the Think Tank Airport Security rolling bag. I'm hoping that if I put my purse in my laptop bag, that can go under the seat, and the Think Tank can go (with much pain associated w/ the heavy lifting) in the overhead compartment. That's my plan at least for the destination wedding I'm doing in March of next year.
