We waited for this fellow to take flight and of course no BIF until we turned our backs and walked away :D

    I like what you did, 4 labs, could you please tell us how you did it? Please.

    A short tutorial, you don't have to do the visuals, but I would really like to know what you did.

    Ginger no poblem.. I open a curves adjusment layer. Used the whit eeyedropper, there are three black,gray and white. I click on the bird since I know it is supposed to be white and the white balance was corrected. I than played around with the curve a tiny bit and a bit of USM and thats it.

    Thanks, and of course you used Curves umph.gif I've been staying away from that, just haven't got the hang of it yet, seems so sensitive or I'm to heavy handed. Going to use your example and take another copy and try again. Do you use a mouse or a watcom tablet?
    I asked that cause I think that may be the problem I'm having, can't seem to make light enough changes with my mouse, make any sense?

    hey Ben I just use a mouse. You will see once you get the D2hs that you will use the same curve over and over and it will become second nature...

    re curves, I have a book, it is very specific, visually, on how to do the light, dark, contrast curves. Just do them as the book shows, not much play with the curves can do a lot. That is what the book helped me with, also where to put "the play". I was going to return the book, can't do that, need it.

    It is Pro Digital Photographer's Handbook. I even bought it at the store, I was going to return it. I only really use three of the books I have: this one, Ben Wilmore's Photoshop CS, and Scott Kelby's The Photoshop CS book, I do have others, but these are my "keepers", the ones I would not be without.

    All of these will be updated for CS2, I am sure. I can get CS2, same place I got CS, black market, as people will say, risky, but I have had my CS for a long time, got a lot of support, and I am happy enough with mine. It was 100.00 and the new one is, too. I am not in the market right now, the way it bothers me the most is that so many of the books and articles will be geared to it.

    I just ordered some books on bird photography. I have one more to order, one I have now from the library, it is on nature, but very good info, for me. These are really "how to take" books, not PS. If I find one page in a book invaluable, like that curves thing, it makes the book for me.

    I have not had good luck with the eyedroppers, and I did think the bird was not really supposed to be white, as that would be blown.

    How do you handle that?

    These are very nice. I really like the monochromatic colors of the bird and branch in #1... but if you could follow Labby's lead and adjust it to make them pop against the blue sky... BAM!
