The winner is not the Cicada, it's that other vicious looking thing. Does anyone know what that is?
Don't have a macro, so I got up as close as I could. When the bee(?) took off flying with the screaming Cicada, I kind of lost it and took off running. So no documentation of the take off--maybe I shouldn't consider macro at all.:rofl

Up to two inches long!

Nikon D7000 | 10-20 | 50 | 55-200
too funny.
Thanks Cory and Shawn, also thanks for the info, that is exactly what it is an Easter Cicada killer--how obvious!
Had I known that this wasp relative was not aggressive I would have gotten closer, I was afraid it would lift me up in the air and slam me to the ground--kinda of like some people look at me when I try my hand at photo journalism .

Think those are worth taking a closer look at for sure.
Thanks Andrew and DaddyO,
, I think these are my best pics to date.
I also really enjoyed taking a sequence of them--kind of made me wish I could have rigged a small ring around them. I was rooting for the Cicada.
Would love to do more with #1 and #3, but I don't have photoshop programs installed on my dilapidated and ancient laptop--the new camera set me backa smidge, now just waiting a bit to buy a new P.C. with monster power.
I will come back to these when that happens for sure.
