It has been weeks since we've had a good storm in my area. Seems like we are having monsoon lite this year. Tonight we had a storm and I grabbed the camera and headed out.

Wow, what a catch! The 'bolts' are very sharp (no pun intended). What is that bright light from, just next to the lightning and on the other side of the mountain? I assume city lights?...

Oh man that's an awesome shot, Christina! The lightning is perfectly placed, compositionally speaking. I also love the blue of the lightning contrasted with the warm glow from the city lights. I even like that beautifully "curvy" mountain line at the bottom...I guess I'm saying I live everything! :Dclap.gifthumb.gif
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap but memories are priceless.

Nice! Did you have to crop? Or did the lightning cooperate and position itself nicely at the right side? rolleyes1.gif

Awesome photo, beautiful clarity to the lightning, which seems to. I've never done any lightning shooting but am curious to hear about where you were shooting from and any tips about the process since you've got it down!

Thanks Eia! I'm not sure what that light is behind the mountain. It stopped right at 10pm, so maybe it was Deer Valley Airport.

Thank you Mahesh! I can thank mother nature for the placement of the lightning. A little bit more to the right and I would have missed the shot.

Thanks Marc! I did crop, but only from the left side. Mother nature kindly placed the bolt there. mwink.gif

Thanks Alex! I was on a hillside overlooking the valley. I don't have any special tips other than what I've read here on dgrin. Mother nature plays a big part of it.

I love it, great shot! I was out Wednesday night trying to see the meteor shower but the cloud cover got to thick. There was a nice lightning show around which was fun to watch.

Thanks matrix311! I'm up in Cave Creek, so we were watching the same storm.
