Question about the image processor in PS

I am totally scratching my head in frustration....
When my clients purchase the disc, it includes the photos in email resolution (600 x 400px) and printing resolution... And I use the image processor to resize and do all the dirty work for me. FOR SOME REASON that I have yet to discover sometimes ps lets me open a file from wherever, and sometimes it only allows me to pull from the desktop. This is only since I got my new computer, before that it let me open wherever I wanted.
I bet there is some setting or something simple like capslock preventing me from opening up "My pictures" and the external hard drives. And you all will laugh at me...
Any computer geeks out there wanna help?
This is what the dialogue box looks like:

*help please*
Hmm...mine looks a little different. I notice that there are two Desktop icons in the display. What happens if you open the second one? Maybe My Computer is hidden there?
Hi, Heather. I run Vista and CS3 and have had a similar problem, but not with Ps. It was another program, and I can't remember which right now. But the browser box would give me a limited folder list, as in your case. I don't think I ever resolved it.
When I browse from the image processor, I get the normal folder list. But, I never use the processor that way. I always access the image processor from Bridge (Menu>Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor), so I can have a look. It works best that way for me.
Having said that, these days, I almost always do this kind of work from Lr, using the export function. Very good, and fast.
I'm not much of a geek (the wife insists I'm more of a dufus). Sorry I couldn't answer your actual question. But you might try the Bridge thing.

It is just the files from my the desktop from my last computer. (The one that fried one day.)
And nope, My Computer is not. It should be right there...
Non-geeks are always allowed too!
I used bridge for it in the past too... but that is all whacked out lately too. It insists that I have to have a quad core or something like that to run, though it used to work just fine.. I don't have a clue, but it isn't working either. Yeah, I am not terribly computer inclined. LR, I had just picked up before I processed the wedding that I need to work on again, and at that time I was converting to jpgs before I did the deep processing... so all the photos that have deep processing would have to be imprted to include all changes. .. .. makes me crazy sometimes. Still getting the hang of LR.
