Artsy GIF distortions

Here is something for you to try..... sort of like Posterizing, except with more control.

Using Photoshop CS2, I took my rough shot and boosted the contrast then did a "Save-for-Web" selecting GIF. I then play with the lossy slider and changing the number of colors. You can also change individual colors by double-clicking the color swatches in the color table. Here, I changed 2 brown colors, one on the end of the yucca and the mountain side. You can also increase the number of colors then start deleting some out.

Once saved as a GIF you could reopen it in PS and do another "Save-for-Web" as a JPG for further tweeking. The effect may work better on a small image size. Here, I worked off a 732 X 1000 sized file that was pretty rough with high ISO noise

GIF settings:
32 colors
Perceptual Lossy = 39
no dither

What do you think?
I would be interesting to see some of your shots and "distortions".

have fun, .......... Dave
