Less common up there than the regular blue bluets, a bit larger, and much less skittish, as long as you don't loom over them. This guy I got by crawling on my stomach, with a 60mm lens (the only macro lens I have), but with the extra reach of a crop-sensor camera. He was calm enough that I did not have to crop except to get to 8*10 aspect ratio.

Thanks. After my original posting, I was able to identify it, but I was only able to edit the posting, not the title. It is commonly called a violet dancer or violet tail. It's the same genus (argia) as the common bluet and a bunch of other damselflies.
I have to get myself some tubes and a 100mm lens...
