I really like this capture, but it's an F-16... I think every airplane photographer has a self portrait like this - I know I have several!

It was the Wings Over Wine Country in Santa Rosa last weekend. Not a well-run show to be honest.

What equipment are you using?
With your great series of shots, I will now get my butt in gear and try to shoot the next airshow. Thank you for the inspiration I neededclap

The California Capital Airshow is On Sept 12-13 at Mather Field in Sacramento....... http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/ if you want to make the drive. 100,000 people attended last year, don't plan on a quick drive home.
I agree, #7 is a great photo with the moon! Thanks for sharing.

Well it certainly helps to have a fast body and fast glass. I would recommend renting a fast lens for the next event you want to shoot. The Canon 100-400 is ideal for airshows but it is big and heavy, but you probably already knew that.

You will be challenged with a low 2.8fps (the D700 with grip is 8fps) but a good lens should help you out tremendously with fast focus. A monopod couldn't hurt either.
