Nice set of shots - where were they taken?

I really like this capture, but it's an F-16...

Nice series of airshow pics. thumb.gifthumb.gif Which show was this? Looks like you had great weather for the shoot. The Sigma 50-500 lens did good by you!!! My favorite is the #7 moon shot (you didn't photoshop that in did you :D ). I will be shooting the "Atlantic City, Thunder Over the Boardwalk" airshow this week. No ground shot opportunities since it's over the beach. It is supposed to be hot, humid, and a slight chance of thunderstorms......hopefully not the latter.

    Plane description is fixed :)

It was the Wings Over Wine Country in Santa Rosa last weekend. Not a well-run show to be honest.

Great captures! The lighting was perfect and everything's so sharp. After seeing your images, I'm so disappointed in the ones I took of the Blue Angels in Pensacola last month :cry . I hate to say it's my equipment, because I think my technique is good, but I really think it's my equipment.

    What equipment are you using?

Working in Aviation for over 20 years I have become an aviation nut but never took the time to take pictures.ne_nau.gif

With your great series of shots, I will now get my butt in gear and try to shoot the next airshow. Thank you for the inspiration I neededclap.gifclapclap.gif

Rookie - I'm using a Canon 350D with a 75-300 EF lens. Sorry for not responding sooner, I'm not getting email notices of replies.

The California Capital Airshow is On Sept 12-13 at Mather Field in Sacramento....... http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/ if you want to make the drive. 100,000 people attended last year, don't plan on a quick drive home.

I agree, #7 is a great photo with the moon! Thanks for sharing.

Well it certainly helps to have a fast body and fast glass. I would recommend renting a fast lens for the next event you want to shoot. The Canon 100-400 is ideal for airshows but it is big and heavy, but you probably already knew that.

You will be challenged with a low 2.8fps (the D700 with grip is 8fps) but a good lens should help you out tremendously with fast focus. A monopod couldn't hurt either.
