I <3 lakes, colors and boats.

Cool picture. It's always a bit surreal to be out there when nobody else is. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif" border="0" alt="" >

I like how the mast cuts through the horizontal plane. Nice image.

The mast looks like a pen stroke that goes through the boat. Beautiful.

BTW, the first link in your sig doesn't work as is, it gives me a "404 not found". I think you got a typo in there. Constructive criticism this is :-)

Uh, oops. (was set somehow to http://digitalgrin.com/ntwphotos...) Should be fixed now. rolleyes1.gif

Thanks for the comments everyone! I _was_ really pleased with this one and am looking forward to the (very similar) image I took with medium format Velvia 100 at almost the same time. Once it's processed/scanned, we'll see how it came out.

Any thoughts on what could/should be done for a future image?
I'm thinking to apply a graduated ND during the shooting to keep the sun from blowing out as much (had to post-process one in here...).
    Anything else? Thanks in advance!

I love the colours, subject and most of the composition.

Just an idea but what about cropping some of the sky so the horizon is not in the middle. It would keep the viewers eye on the boat and beautiful colors in the refection of the sky in the water. It will also prevent the picture from looking like two separate shots stacked on top of each otherheadscratch.gif

If you do not mind, here is an example of what I meant by cropping. I also brightened up the boat area while vignetting the corners a touch, bumped the cotrast and saturation. This may sound alot but all the changes are very subtle and quick.

Heh. I should show you what the unedited version of the image looks like... :D (actually, I only darkened/contrasted the top half and cut out the mast from the mask to keep it light; a kind of (very) specialized GND filter. Oh yeah, and a run at unsharp mask once, too.)

I'd like to give your cropping idea a run to see where it takes me. At a glance, it does look like a more powerful image, even if my original thought had been intentionally to center it.

My concern with a sat bump is that the colors get a little too unrealistic, esp. on the boat top and the blue part of the sky. I'll keep playing, though!

    Thanks for the feedback!
    Looking forward to more!

Awesome composition and reflection, Nate. The colors are amazing! clap.gif I remember seeing this before, and I must have forgotten to comment on it. I'm glad I ran across it again.

Very nice Nate. I've done a lot of duckhunting in Missouri and Kansas over the decades. You've really caught a great plains sunrise, both in color and scale. Very nicely composed as well.
