I'm taking Amtrak to Reno tomorrow morning, leaving San Jose at 6:40 am, Leaving Oakland (Emeryville) at 9:10 am, and rolling into Reno at 4:06 pm. I'd love hints on which side of the train to sit, where to watch out for scenic photo opportunities as we roll on by. Thanks!

I'm giving this a bump in hopes that someone might be able to help you.

I don't know the area nor have I ever traveled by train so I don't have much advise to give you. However, I would suggest positioning yourself based on the time of day so you are not shooting into the sun.

ie: If you are north bound in the afternoon be on the right side of the train.
