Slideshow stalls or stops when images set too large.

Hi gang,

I've been having problems with viewing slideshows where the gallery images are large. Not only with my own galleries, but also galleries that belong to some family members (who set their images to Original).

The slideshow starts okay, but then either takes a very long time to advance, or doesn't advance at all, whereby I need to select ESC to exit the slideshow. However, if I reduce the max size on my gallery to Xlarge or smaller, then the slideshow is smoother and more responsive.

My connection is very quick and I routinely clean my web browser cache. I have tried both FireFox and IE 8, with the same results. I also have the latest Flash software. This is happening on my new Vista 64bit system with all fresh updates.

Any thoughts?

Peter

Can you post a link to a gallery where this is currently happening? Also, are you looking at the full screen slideshow, the gallery slideshow or a custom slideshow?

    Thanks . . . .

Here is a link to my Nature gallery:

As for the slideshow, when it is selected it automatically goes into a full screen slideshow for the gallery.

I don't know if this is contributing or not, but this image: http://photos.smugmug.com/photos/582127128_54YyF-X2-1.jpg is not available in the X3 size which may be causing the slideshow to stumble.

Hi John, not sure what is associated with that link since it doesn't open. Anyway, the slideshow problem occurs with other galleries and those of family members who have their own SmugMug accounts.

    Thanks

The fact that you can't open that link is interesting. That link points to this image which the slideshow is trying to load, but failing on:

If you can reproduce the problem, then file a bug in the bug reporting forum and describe the steps including a link to a gallery where is happens as the slideshow is supposed to work reliably.

    Hi John,

I tried the link again and it did open the image after a bit of a wait. However, the problem is not specific to my gallery. I have tried viewing my daughter's Smugmug album in which she has set all her galleries to Original Image. When I view her galleries via slideshow I randomly get long pauses, freezes in transition with two images overlapping, and at times the slideshow simply does not advance. I'm wondering if it's a problem with Flash Player version 10. Is it possible that since the slideshow defaults to full screen (whether I view my galleries or my daughter's) that viewing on a 24inch monitor can cause problems with the Flash Player?

    Thanks again.

It should work, no matter how large the screen. If you have a big screen and a slow connection, it might take a little while between images, but it should still advance. Since there's no configuration or customization on your part, if it doesn't work, it's either a problem with your internet connection to Smugmug or some sort of Smugmug problem.
