Humpback Whales, Aug. 12

It was an overcast day when my mom and I took a boat out of Provincetown, MA, on a whale watch. I didn't put the polarizing filter on my canon 70-300 lens....but I did bring along my G7 to get a couple of shots when one whale simply got too close for the 70-300.
Whale's eye, taken with G7
Top of whale's jaw, taken with 70-300 at 70mm. It came up high enough to more than fill the viewfinder
He went down and turned around to show us the underside of his jaw
His flukes
As he moved off, taken with G7
Other shots from that day

It is a shame that it was overcast, it looks like you still had a great time. I have only been on a whale watch once several years ago, and I didn't get anything nearly so up-close.

Thanks, Bud. It was a great day! I also went out on Aug 10, a bright sunny day and took a lot of photos, have to sort them out and then will upload some of them.
The whale watch trip is something I plan to make a regular part of my trips(during the summer) to see family from now on.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Thanks Harry, yes we had 2 great days on the water. Very different conditions (1 sunny day, 1 overcast) and very different behavior from the whales. I was very fortunate and look forward to doing it again next summer.
