Baby rhino and a few other zoo shots

The Madrid zoo now has one of the few rhinos ever to be born in captivity:

He was two months old at the time these shots were taken and weighed several hundred pounds. Sadly, there was no way to get a shot without at least some wire fencing in the way.

He stayed pretty close to his mother most of the time.

I watched him for about an hour, but it wasn't very exciting. Standing up, walking around, lying down and that was about it. Don't know what rhinos do for fun.

The dromedaries don't do much either.

There is also a pair of giant pandas. They are certainly the most spoiled animals in the place, lounging around a very large enclosure while zoo workers bring them bamboo. I almost expected to see him with his paw on the remote.

Thanks for looking. C&C is always welcome.

Cheers,

Great shots. The wires are not a problem I am a learner and I would be able to get rid of those in PS. I love those Panda's maybe because they are getting near extinction.

Thanks for the comments, Ric and Bob. I considered cloning the wires out, but laziness got the upper hand. In the end, they are just zoo pics, so I'm not sure it's worth pretending otherwise. OTOH, now I see planks too (thanks a lot, Ric rolleyes1.gif) lol3.gif Maybe when the temperatures here drop below 100 I'll give it a shot.

I just LOVE that camel photograph. It makes me laugh.
I love going to the zoo to shoot animals, but I have so much trouble with the lighting. It's always too dark or too bright. Doesn't look like you had much trouble at all. :)

Almost looks like a cartoon character, doesn't he? :D

Yeah, they don't make it easy here--the zoo opens at around 11 AM and closes well before sunset, so there's no chance of getting the sweet light. I would have loved to have had all sun or all shade for that shot of the goats, but it just wasn't in the cards. You just have to try to make the best of it.
