exinf data question

Hello everyone! I rececently noticed that when I upload my photos to SmugMug, the exinf data is missing. Am I missing something, maybe a setting somewhere? Lately I've been shooting in RAW format, and editing in Lightroom, then exporting a copy to another directory in jpg format, I then run all those photos through Mark It Now to add my little text watermark, and save those in another directory. I then have Picassa3 import them into it's library, and then upload the ones I want to SmugMug via the SmugMug app that was created for Picassa. Somewhere along the line the exinf data is lost. Would there be a better way to do what I'm trying to do, and not lose the exinf data? I'm open to all suggestions at this point!

your best bet would to install something like the free exifUtils http://www.hugsan.com/EXIFutils/ avaliable for Windows, Mac and Linux. It's a really powerful command line tool for viewing and editing exif info.

Run it on a image at each step in your workflow. It could be any of them that's stripping the EXIF.

I much prefer to upload my full sized images straight from Lightroom and let smugmug watermark them. Maybe a pro acct is worth the time savings for you?

I found a program to watermark my photos that doesn't strip the exif info. It's called BatchMarker, and can be downloaded at www.batch-photo-processing.com

Now for my next question. I've seen people post photos and they say that if you click on the photo that you can see the exif data. How is this done? It works on smugmug, but how is it done here on DGrin?

It takes a little effort, but it's possible. After you have included the image in your post, save the url that gives the EXIF data. Then click on the image to select it, then hit the link button at the top of the message composition window and paste the url. Step by step instructions are here: How To Post on Dgrin
