Ive heard so much about it, seen so many photos about the rotting seaside that I had to go see for myself. Its an interesting place (If it looks like it might smell in the photos... trust me, it does smell) but a lot smaller than I thought it would be. I got really lucky with the weather. Not more that 40 miles from here the wind was howling. Totally still when I took the photos at Bombay:

Beautiful shot -- for some reason it makes me think of the cover of a science-fiction book. Did the Salton Sea give you the creeps? I've seen it many times, and it always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And yes, it stinks!

The place is a bit creepy in that you travel through the desert for about 20 miles without seeing another building or town and then there is the small community of Bombay. The whole place seems like it cant be more than a square mile in size. I got there around 7:30am and didnt see anyone moving around. Lots of abandond houses, however there were people living there.

What I find really interesting about this place is the fact that a lot of people have photographed it over the years. If you do a quick search on the net for bombay beach, salton sea... you can go back in time and see how the place has decayed over the years. Check out the following links. Never heard of it, FastScan. Thanks for the piccies and the links. Fascinating. I think I agree with your decision to go B&W - adds some atmosphere to the shots.
