Hummingbirds

So I was at the grocery and saw bouquets on sale, being the thoughtful husband I bought two for my wife. She was delighted. Later as I was sitting on the porch watching the humming birds visit the feeder the ol' light bulb went off. I wonder if the humming birds would visit the bouquets? Could they tell or would they care that they were cut flowers? I started by bungee-ing a mixed bouquet to a roof post under the feeder. I thought the bright colors would draw their attention but all I got was a fly by or two but no real interest. Then it dawned on me to remove the feeder and leave the bouquet. That worked. The next morning I repeated the setup with a single red rose from the other bouquet. Again no interest until the feeder was removed. Below are the results along with a B&W conversion for fun. All comments appreciated.

Also try adding a little sugar water to the flowers!

Thanks. I like the B&W also, almost looks negative or IR.

I did put some of the hummer food in the rose but not in the bouquet. I'm not sure it made a difference once the other feeders were unavailable.

cool idea - the 2 rose shots are spectacular - I attended a bird photo workshop and they did something similar but surrounded and hid the feeder with real flowers - thus getting great attraction but with a real flower look -
    your technique worked well also

Thanks for the kind words Marcy. It was kind of exciting when it started to work.
