lol3.gif Nice! Very cool set Glenn. I am assuming you were using a flash on most of those, right? What kind of setup are you using?

Thanks Mike! I use a 580EX II with a Better Beamer on a Wimberly flash bracket. The Wimberly bracket is nice as I can reconfigure it for different setups.

Very nice Glenn. I am not used to seeing so many little songbirds in your posts. There is not one shorebird. Love the vivid yellows you captured.

    What a lovely squirrel! mwink.gif

I wish you would share with us how you make these shadow enshrouded birdies look so good, Glenn.

    Thanks Ric!

I shoot alot of photos and maybe get one that I like!:D

For small birds like warblers that are in the shade most of the time; I shoot in manual mode with synced flash (usually at 1/250sec, but sometimes alot slower) I set the ISO and speed so that I can get an exposure (without flash) of about -1 stop, and then let the flash (with better beamer - zoom set to 50mm) do the rest.

The down side is you have to wait for the flash to recycle, so you can't shoot machine gun style.

When I'm not in shade I switch to Aperture Priority, and I use high speed sync flash (for fill) instead. What is nice is that the 1dmkIIn remembers your settings between the two modes so switching is easy.

All very nice Glenn, as usual, but I really like seeing that 'live' northern parula. My wife and I had come home from a shopping trip earlier this spring and found a very small colorful yellow and gray bird lying on the deck dead. It didn't seem to be mutilated in any way and my first thought was someone's pet bird got loose and just died from weather or something. I had never seen nor heard of a northern parula but eventually found it in my bird book. I have no idea what happened nor have I seen another since. A very pretty little bird and you captured it very nicely. thumb.gif

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

headscratch.gifroflSince I don't own a flash...I'll have to hope that this info will help others.

Sad story, Bud! It probably flew into a glass window or something. We have a fair amount of them here (Florida) but they are usually pretty high up in the trees.
