wasp vs grasshopper

While not precisely macros...

The wasp is regurgitating on the grasshopper to digest it.


While not as sharp as I would like, it is the first time I have seen a wasp with food all over its face...


The wasp spent about five to ten minutes trying to haul the grasshopper away but failed.


Ideally, I would have laid down on the ground to take these, but the path was a fine nasty sharp gravel, and I was afraid of getting run over by someone flying around the corner;p

LOvely series of captures.
Suspect the wasp was not trying to eat the hopper but get it to it's nest burrow where it would lay eggs on it.

This matches what I saw it doing, but it could not get the grasshopper off of the ground. Several times, it pulled for all it was worth, only to "faceplant" in the gravel about 10 - 20 cm in front of it. It was fascinating to watch though.
