After doing my Nikon FX/D700 Sigma ultra-wide angle comparison of the 12-24mm full frame vs. 15-30mm full frame here I decided to do something similar with my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 lens and Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF-D (non-G).

1.8 @ 1.8 vs. 1.4 @ 1.4

My eyes and the resolution of the pics aren't good enough to notice anything. But I'm untrained :)

You should list what brands of the lenses and full frame or crop. I see in your sig you are nikon. So I assume these are nikons.

I would also like to see your findings/results and the pictures are there to support those.

Cool, updated the original thread to show Nikon... these were both shot on the D700 with the same pinpoint focus point for each shot though...
Larger sizes of these examples with full EXIF data can be seen here:

I am a bit stumped by the image of the cups with both lenses set to f/8. There is an obvious depth of field difference that I did not expect.

Just to double check that I had that one correctly linked (there was, after all - quite a bit of copying and pasting going on), here's the link to both of those in the gallery with EXIF data available:

It seems like his distance was different between various shots, but even with that it looks like too big of a difference.

The f/1.8 lens overall looks slightly sharper to me for each equal aperture, but the OOF area of the f1.4 lens seems to be more appealing to me.

Also, it looks like the distance was about the same, but the 50mm 1.4 seems to capture the image a little higher than the 50mm 1.8 - notice the top of the cup is very close to the frame edge on the 1.8 lens shots and in the 1.4 shots, it's the bottom of the cup that is very close the edge.

    nice comparisons..my observations on the 1.4 at 1.8 vs 1.8 at 1.8.

teh 1.4 looks like it has a touch more exposure and contrast. Was the PP exactly the same?

also the bokeh in the 1.4 lens is bit more creamy imo.

Both shot in raw/nef, converted in LR, to adobe camera standard, +20 vibrance and exported in the same batch, but I notice what you mean... the original shots were with a base ISO200 setting on the D700, A priority with upper auto-ISO limit of 6400.
