Not to put a damper on things, but I'm confused. What's it a picture of?

I thought for a second that you'd said "Not to put a diaper on things..." But to answer your question. It's a young ethnic (maybe Uighur) family in the Yu Yuan garden area of Shanghai. The father was repairing a food cart (not sure if it was his) while the family milled about. What caught my eye originally was the mother-child pose and the depth of the child's gaze.
