Joe redesigned his line of Flip-it! reflectors.
New materials, new reflecting surface, new size, modular design...

Here is a quick overview: Demb Flip-it! redesign

Yeah, I noticed this yesterday. I hate the new design. Too bad he won't sell the old one. The old one could stay on my flash while it was in the bag because I could just fold it over. This new one, not so apparent in these pictures, kicks out away from the flash more and is much higher off the flash head. It just won't fit in any bag like this.

    Yuck.

Change gives the illusion of improvement...
I really like my Demb Flash Diffuser Pro unit but, I don't see any great advantages to switching over to the new "improved" model and, like the previous poster mentioned; there may even be some drawbacks.

I don't think the new design calls for an upgrade. Joe tried to improve his diffuser. Succeeded or not... that's up to us to decide... but I doubt that he expects people to throw away their old units and buy new ones :)

    tests
I spent some time evaluating and testing the new Demb design. Here is a more detailed review: Demb Flip-it! - new design vs. old design

The tests show that the new Demb reflector creates slightly softer edged shadows (in the same configuration): Demb Flash Diffuser design comparison test

The whole point of the hinge is the ability to bend it to control the amount of light going forward. I wonder if you fold the old reflector back 15 degrees if you wouldn't get a similar effect.

Both designs seem like they do the same thing. One is just bulkier.
