2 ways of watermarking galleries on SmugMug may affect Animoto display of watermarks

Found a glitch w/ the watermark thing....

-Export to Animoto from SmugMug works properly and no watermarks appear.
-Import from Smugmug through Animoto still grabs watermarked versions.

Video imports properly as video via either method though, so that's working as expected. Might need to have animoto fix something on their side for the import from smugmug glitch?
I'm trying to figure out this watermarking thing, because un-watermarking is a real problem for me (I have too many photos that have watermarks individually placed, in some galleries at least). But I don't quite know what you mean by your statement about export & import. Are you saying no watermarks appear if you are in your SmugMug gallery, click on "Buy > make an Animoto video" and Animoto then automatically grabs your photos from that Smug gallery?

For me, it worked that way twice-- my Animoto vid did not have watermarks even though it came from a watermarked gallery. Yay! But the most recent time, I again used a watermarked gallery, the vid DID have watermarks. Yuck. All of these galleries are watermarked with the same type of watermarking. Today, however, I think maybe I've found the difference between this latest gallery and the others... and maybe this is why some vids end up watermarked. I looked into "Gallery Settings". On the first two galleries, I had watermarking set that way. But in the most recent case, which used an older gallery, that gallery had been set to "no watermarking" in "Gallery Settings". I had gone later into "Tools>More> Watermarking" and set my watermarks in that gallery by that method. I'm testing another gallery/video now, but it looks to me like Animoto is again not grabbing the watermarks (yay!) and once again, this gallery had watermarking set in "Gallery Settings". Will let you know when I've gathered more evidence.

But I'd still like to know what you mean by import & export.

Think of it like importing and exporting physical goods.

The ultimate destination is Animoto. Whether you're importing or exporting depends on which website you start at.

In the exporting scenario I am starting from Smugmug. Since I'm sending my photos to Animoto, this is export when I start here and send them over there. (Using the buy menu)
In the importing scenario I am starting from Animoto. Since my photos live on Smugmug I must import them using the import photos from SmugMug option on the Animoto site.

Ok, thanks for the explanation! I see what you mean-- I knew the importing/exporting concept in general, but had thought the only way to do it was exporting through Smug. So yes, I tested making another video: http://animoto.com/play/1YdGhyjAQRuGwsOzWSuOGQ (here on Smug, it's the Oceans vid in this gallery: http://www.winsomeworks.com/Travel/Travel-Videos/14454711_SAiXs#1089679519_uc5Mp ) Unfortunately, I still know what the difference is. I don't think it's the importing/exporting though, because in making this vid, I did both. I'll explain: I first exported (through "Buy" like you said) a gallery to Animoto. Then I decided the video needed photos from another gallery. So at that point I imported them through the "import photos" option on Animoto. None of the photos in this video came out watermarked, however. But I don't think it's the other issue I thought it was, either. One source gallery had been watermarked through "Gallery Settings". The other had been watermarked through "Tools>Many>Watermarking". So.... back to the drawing board. I sure wish the Smug gurus & Animoto gurus would figure this one out.
