    The first one packs a lot of punch. The highlights accent the coffee mug and the continuity of colour, tone, and light (I am out on a limb here being colourblind, so please forgive if I am blending the colour in your photo in my mind which you do not see as the same mwink.gif) accenting the subject of your picture is effective. So too is the uniform and separate background.
