As the time for the Acadia Shootout draws close, we thought you might like to see a few shots from the area. We were in Acadia this past June for a meeting and took some extra time to take a few pictures. We will post a few here and provide a link to the rest so that the message does not get too long.

The first night we were there we drove up Cadillac Mountain to try to get a sunset shot. When we were up there shooting, we saw someone who looked familiar. When we went over to take a closer look, we found it was Art Wolfe who was there with one of his "Travels to the Edge" seminars. There were soon cameras and tripods everywhere. We got a change to talk with him for a few minutes and tell him how much we liked his show. Very nice guy.

In the picture below of the seminar group you might notice that everyone is wearing a coat (this was early June). This brings up an important topic. Unless you are one of the people coming to the shootout from further north and east, it is likely to be cooler here than you might expect. This is especially true in the morning fog and in the afternoon, early evening when there is an on-shore breeze (that water is cold). We always have at least two extra layers with us when we go out shooting. Usually we take a fleece jacket and a parka. In October, we would also add gloves and a hat.

We hope you enjoy visiting our home state. Spend a lot of money while you are here, the state needs the taxes. If you need to get a fleece jacket, etc. feel free to stop in Freeport on your way to Mount Desert and do some shopping at LL Bean or one of the many other stores there. There is also a very good outdoors type store, Cadillac Mountain Sports, in Ellsworth just before getting to the island.

This shot was taken at Blue Hill overlook just below the summit of Cadillac Mountain. This is a good location to get a sunset shot. Art Wolfe is the person in the middle of the picture with the black hat and blue jacket.
