Vault & Bibble & XMP

I may have something backwards, or don't understand, and vault just doesn't support this, but here goes.
I've seen some comments that make me think that the Vault makes use of an xmp file when it can, to built the link between the jpg and the raw file it comes from, but I may have misunderstood. Is that true?
What I'm trying to do is to associated a number of different .jpgs with same raw file. I've uploaded a number of jpgs, a .xmp files and a raw file, but only see a single association.
In Bibble5 I can make a number of versions of setting for a single raw, .crw in my case, file. Bibble5 stores all the settings in a .xmp file which includes the name of the raw file, eg
dmfversion:versionName="CRW_1452.CRW
and the name of each version eg
dmfversion:versionName="CRW_1452_v2"
dmfversion:versionName="CRW_1452_v3"
If it is true is that vault makes use of an xmp file when it can is here any doc on what the Vault expects to see in the .xml file?
BTW, this is not pressing for me, I just would like to understand more of how the vault manages things and if possible use it to help me tie things together.
Thx
Dan

Sorry, but the SmugVault can't use any XMP files for the purpose that you have in mind. It automatically only groups files together that have the same filename and different file extensions.
You can manually 'attach related files' using the Tool of the same name from Tools > this photo > more while viewing the photo in question.
