couldnt really find the answer through searching so i guess ill post up.

i have a few categories now. One in particular is going to grow quite large as i add more and more to it. i was wondering if i could pick a "standard" category and add a sub folder to that one. which i will be able to then load a new folder sub of that one. ill try to explain if i did not word it right.

the main folder i will be using is "Cars" but it is already getting full. we hold series of events here that i shoot at. just to throw it out there one is NSCB, one is true street, one is RSD. i would like to have a cars gallery when you click that you would see a few sub galleries named NSCB, TS, RSD. once you click that it would have the gallery for each race, and in there would be the pictures as they site now.

what i have now is a general gallery in a catergory....

Cars > gallery name > photos

so what i want is a gallery placed in another sub galley of that category....

Cars > NSCB > gallery name > photos

Cars > TS > gallery name > photos

Cars > RSD > gallery name > photos

is this possible?

Yes, this is possible using categories and subcategories. See this post.

For now, all Smugmug has is categories, subcategory and galleries. They say they will do more levels in the future.

You can create sub galleries by putting an html link to the sub gallery in your photo caption area like I've done here.

I just upload the incident photos to a new gallery, decide which image is most representative of that incident, copy it to the "main gallery", then put the link to the sub gallery under that photo.

Once you get the work flow down to a science, it's just copy and paste and it goes pretty fast.

Let me know if you need more info.

    Separate galleries and sub categories
Does anyone know the logic of Smugmug separating out galleries from sub categories?

There doesn't appear to be a nice simple solution to this issue.

It seems extremely bizare to me.

Anyone know if changes are afoot?

Create the sub-category under the right category in the control panel. It won't show via your homepage until you put a gallery in it.

Then, go to the customize gallery for a particular gallery and modify the category and/or sub-category.

Categories and sub-categories are more like an attribute of the gallery that you just set to whatever you want than they are an actual container as in a file system.
