EOS 40D Time Lapse Problems

I've been trying to do some time lapse photography using my EOS 40D, a Mac Book Pro and Canon's EOS Utility. After 3 or 4 pictures everything locks up. I have to reboot the computer and turn the camera off and on. I'm not sure if the problem is with the camera, the computer or the software. Has anyone experimented with time lapse with a similar setup and did it work for you?

My first guess would be the software. I've never tried time lapse with that set up, however, nor have I read any reports of it being done that way. I've done it a few times using the Canon intervalometer and gotten good results.

How long is the interval you are using? I remember having some problems with a 20D when the time between pics was too short. You need to allow enough time for the pic to be fully transferred from the camera to the computer.

That's the way I'd do it if I needed to.
