Deleted a subcategory containing galleries

Hello,

I deleted a subcategory that contained a few small galleries thinking that the galleries would be auto-magically relocated to the parent category or the "Other" default bucket category, but they weren't.

Is there some way to access the galleries that were located in the deleted subcategory so that I can relocate them elsewhere?

Worse comes to worse, is there some way to delete the inaccessible galleries so that I can reuse the gallery names elsewhere?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I simple don't see the galleries from the deleted "Featured" subcategory. Images from the galleries show up when I do a keyword search, but when I click on the photo's thumb to display, I get the following in FireFox:

    "The page isn't redirecting properly:

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

    * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

So it seems that the photos are still out there in Smuggydom, but I just can't get at them....

switch to "gallery" view (from "category" view), find the gallery and fix the category / sub-category attributes

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite following you. What exactly do you mean by "switch" from category view to gallery view? As I reported above, the link to the galleries has been corrupted and I can't navigate there by clicking through the standard category -> subcategory -> gallery route.

    Thanks.

OK pls click 'galleries' here to see all your galleries then re-categorize 'em as needed.

    Andy,

I'm sorry, but can you please be a little more specific (I often joke to friends that I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree!)?

When you say "click 'galleries' here", where is it exactly that you mean? I'm not seeing any of those "missing" galleries on my site that I've been looking for.

If you weren't aware, the Smugmug help desk folks have been in touch. They say that they know where the galleries are but are still investigating the causes of the apparent disappearance. My guess to them is that the missing galleries were configured as "Unlisted" which somehow caused the link to be corrupted when the category was deleted.

Also, according to Mozilla, SmugBrowser is currently only supported on Firefox 3.0.x - I'm running Firefox 3.5.2 right now Too bad for now, looks like a very, very useful tool.

    Thanks.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooh, THAT 'galleries'. I wasn't aware that you could do that (I often say that familiarity breeds confusion)!

Thanks, that will get me back in business.

Funny, the "Other" category shows up in the in the 'Category' drop-down on the gallery Customize page, but not on any of the category drop-downs at Control Panel -> Categories. I've told the help desk about this but haven't gotten a response as yet. Being able to change the name of the "Other" gallery would really help me in getting things right with my site again.

P.S. I was inspired by the new logo on your moonriverphotography site and used the look to create a new logo myself. Thanks.

You can't rename or delete the built-in categories ("Other" is a built-in category). That's why they don't show in the rename or delete drop-downs in the control panel.

Is there a technical reason why the galleries from a deleted category/subcategory aren't simply dumped into a category that can be renamed? Sure would make my life a little easier...

I agree. I don't work for Smugmug, so you'd have to ask a sorcerer why. My guess is that they didn't think of this issue at the time and just pick an existing standard category to dump them in.
