Which crop, if any...

Still learning composition. I took a couple pictures of a local grain elevator and wonder if either 'works.' Which of the below crops works for you, if either do. Does the foreground grass/lawn work as a foreground object? To me it seems dark, but people I have shown it to like it more then the other photo. Not that either photo is great, but would you change?

Thanks in advance!

I prefer the one without the grass in the foreground. I would suggested removing the little bits of grass that you can see in the bottom left of the shot or possibly try cropping it a little tighter to remove the remaining grass and a little of the sky.

    Its a tie.
One for and one against foreground grass. :-)

Thanks both of you for the input, I appreciate it. I am going to play with it some more and maybe go out and try to recompose on the spot rather then edit these.

I like your first image with the grass, it softens the feel of the image. I would crop the right side-in as you did in the second image only because the partial tower showing is a bit of a distraction. I like the compositon, you did a nice job including the snow capped peak for interest. well done.

I too prefer the version with the grass, it gives it another layer, but I'd also be inclined to crop from the right to remove that partial tower.

With or without cropping, it's a nice clear shot.
