Hey all. I had some photos that were being linked to a thread I had posted. It had photos of female friends of mine. The one friend doesn't like what she looks like in the photos, and wants me to take them down. The forum where they are posted does not allow for posts to be edited. I went to the album to delete them, and they are now deleted. However, they are still showing on the thread I posted. I confirmed this many hours later via other computers at different locations. What's going on? Thank you.
Rick

depending on how the site runs, the entire thread is probably logged in their database, thus the pics remain...

That's what I thought. But, that doesn't seem to be the case. If I right click on the image URL, copy/paste, it's still there! I sent it home to try on a comp that had not previously seen the image, cleared my cache/cookies, still there. I tried on another image to crop her out. It changes from L.jpg to L-1.jpg. So the L is still remaining on the server somehow/is replaced by the L-1, but still there? I really, really need to remove this photo....

Maybe try blocking external links for that gallery?

It's odd that deleting it didn't work though. When you copied the URL and pasted it, it was a SmugMug URL, yes?

This is very interesting. I was always under the impression that photos deleted out of a gallery would also no longer be shared in forums or other places online. I'm also curious as to what is going on and what the solutions is. eek7.gif

I found that some photos I've put on here and then removed showed up when I googled my website name. It was a smaller version that when clicked on just led to my site, but didn't show the larger version.

    Strange indeed headscratch.gif

Did they show up in Google or somewhere else? I'd understand if they show up on Google, as they probably cache the image. But if it's on a forum, blog, or some other place where there's a direct link, then that concerns me.

This actually doesn't surprise me. Many search engines (and some other web sites) store a local copy of your site. But it takes time to update their copy because they don't continuously monitor each website for changes.

That makes sense. I'll have to try it periodically and see what happens.

Changing the original of a previously uploaded image on SmugMug (cropping, replacing, etc) ads a number behind the size in the URL to indicate the change. However, if you use the URL without the number, it still shows the new (changed) image, not the 'original' image.

The 'original' image can still be cached, either on a local machine, or by Google of course.
