URL for categories or galleries page?

I want to put a menu item called Portfolio on my home page.

Portfolio shoudl lead me to a page which either shows categories or galleries.

What URL should I provide in the menubuilder?

Go to your smugmug web site in the browser. Go to the exact page that you want to link to in your site. Copy the URL from the URL bar in the browser to the clipboard. Paste that into the menu builder.

Galleries or categories seems to be a widget. Not sure how to browse to that page.

The choice of displaying by galleries or categories is something that only the site owner has access to. This is not something your viewers can select.

Here is where I stand. I have a homepage with just a bio on it (to run a slide show).

I want to menu to point to say the categories page. I am not sure what the URL to the categories page is. (I can get the URL of a gallery page, but not the page that contains all galleries under a category or all categories under me)

Ahhh, you need to create a galleries page (which is actually just a second copy of your homepage with different things hidden). Go to this tutorial to create that and follow the steps labeled The Galleries Page I, II and III.
