Replaced CRT with 24" LCD, but now images are fuzzy

Hi,

Finally got a nice HP LP2475W monitor that came recommended for photo editing. Hooked it up last night and checked out my shots on smugmug. Although I haven't color calibrated it yet (will do today), I immediately noticed that my images are now fuzzier when compared to my monitor here at work and the monitor at home I just replaced (both older 19" CRT monitors). I always upload at full resolution and have my settings set to see large files. Seems like any problems in the image are amplified since my monitor is making them larger than the resolution. Is this normal? Any hints on how to improve this. :(

Be sure your computer's video resolution is set to the native resolution of the new monitor.

Hi. We'd need a specific, precise and exact link to a photo you deem fuzzy please, thanks!

Thanks for your time. Here's one I looked at alot last night. I'm at work now so can't play with the monitor settings but I may have found the problem. My IT guy here said if I have the web based zoom controls set to a higher zoom level, that could cause it. I remember now that I went to HP's website just after turning the monitor on to download the drivers. The text was small small I had to use this function to zoom in the text (which I never do). So it may have been still set to some zoom level once i started to play with it. and look at other websites. I do remember the images were larger than the pixel sizes I uploaded. I will check the settings tonight.

But if you think this image appears in poor quality, I would love to know.

    Thanks,

It looks fine to me, with no fuzziness, with the XL size on my cheap old HP monitor at work here.
Well, I just noticed this is my 100th post. How about that? Oh, I just noticed Andy has 47,641. Forget I mentioned it.

Nice big clear monitor like that deserves the color management of Firefox ;)

Good point. I've heard about Firefox color matching. I actually use it at work, but not for that reason. ALthough, there is something to be said about seeing images as the mainstream sees them, but I guess I can always occasionally check using explorer. ne_nau.gif

Boy, I agree with that completely. It took a long time for me to move over into different thinking, but I think it was also because FF and Safari were getting so popular. That, plus I realized IE wasn't really showing what prints would look like.

Anyway, right now I show about 56% of the people viewing my smugmug site are using firefox, 5% Safari, and 36% IE. On my regular website it's 79% firefox, 17% IE.

I wasn't trying to nitpick. I just started using a 24" 1900x HP monitor and good images really look great on it. I'm still getting used to the thing.
