Kerri said if you want a feedback thread, make one, so I copied Tom's for this one. Hope that's ok. :scratch
Here is the official gallery to give your C&C for DSS#32
Gallery Found Here...
Once more into the fray. This unofficial feedback thread is a catch-all of sorts, lets make it happen:thumb
Anyway, let's start feedback on DSS #32!!
This thread is:
It's easy to post thumbnails (with help from our Moderator).
With the image selected in the gallery, copy its URL from your browser, add "-Th.jpg" to the end, delete the jumble of numbers and letters preceding the hashtag (#), change "gallery" to "photos" and that's it.
Example
Change this url
Code:
http://challenges.smugmug.com/gallery/7821877_VUfQz#508585564_r5YQB
To this
Code:
http://challenges.smugmug.com/photos/508585564_r5YQB-Th.jpg
Happy Feedbacking :scratch

Anyway, let's start feedback on DSS #32!!
This thread is:
- a place to post a list of your top ten favorites. (be heard, and let everyone know what images moved you.)
- a place to post your "the making of my image"
- a place to ask someone "how did they do that?"(for us all to see:D )
It's easy to post thumbnails (with help from our Moderator).
With the image selected in the gallery, copy its URL from your browser, add "-Th.jpg" to the end, delete the jumble of numbers and letters preceding the hashtag (#), change "gallery" to "photos" and that's it.

In the way way past it was fun to see who posted the feedback thread first.
Here are a some of my favs in gallery order...
:nah
Of course, that might just be the jealousy talking.
ackdoc.com
Greensquared - Always Half Full (I like the creativity and the colors)
sbarge - Pathway to the clouds (I like the perspective and the symmetry)
MrsCue - Topsy Turvy World (I like the blue tones and the execution)
WhatSheSaw - Another Saturday Night (I like this better than earlier attempts--well executed)
This was a fun challenge, both to play in and to watch as the entries unfolded!

When I click on an image in the gallery in the link provided at the start of the unofficial feedback thread, the URL I get is (for example):
http://challenges.smugmug.com/Other/DSS32/9388404_uZdYa#640087925_tZbYJ
It has /Other/ where you say there should be 'gallery' to replace with 'photos'?

I think they've just changed it in a recent upgrade - it caught me, too. It now says "other" (but the rest of the directions remain the same)
Okey doke. So just proceed away and replace Other, I suppose.
I'll give it a try. Thanks.

And I will leave it at that because I have a feeling this won't work and we won't be able to see my picks in thumbnails here anyway!
Great job by all!
OK, well nevermind. I have tried 2 different ways to get this to work and I can't. Sorry about that !

is an example of a URL from the gallery. I added -Th.jpg to the end, deleted the hash mark going left up to the slash mark, leaving in the extra section of /DSS32/ and changing 'Other' to 'photos'. didn't work.
Then I tried the same thing, but deleted from the harshmark going left to delete the extra section of /DSS32/ and it still didn't work.
And somehow, this is truncating the URL that I post to show you an example of what I mean, so that you can't even see the extra section I'm talking about!

Great entries everyone.
In no particular order here are my faves, (yep including my own), based on a "DIFFERENT" perspective, originality and creativity.
I felt I had seen all the other perspectives before.
Brian,
Glad you jumped in. Aaron's was right, I wasn't near a computer today. We were off to Marblehead, MA for some sightseeing.
Thanks again..

so your own entry goes from:

to
{h t t p://challenges.smugmug.com/images/641641811_Nrf7q-Th.jpg}
thus...

Which if you remove the extra brackets (and take the spaces out of "http") gives you:
divamum,
Lord have mercy. I took out Photos and put in images. Took the /DSS32/ back out. It still doesn't work. {ut the /DSS32/ back in. Still doesn't work. I'm just going to watch everyone else's favorites! At this point, my brain is fried and so is my patience. But I really do appreciate your help! And Andrew's!

I used the little image icon in the message editor and, for instance used:
"challenges.smugmug.com/Photos/DSS32/637508085_EKJnP-Th.jpg"]challenges.smugmug.com/Photos/DSS32/637508085_EKJnP-Th.jpg"
I see Kinkajou's links were
"challenges.smugmug.com/images/636659685_KXY7T-Th.jpg"
Both are prefaced w/ http://
Now, for the prior challenge, I was having trouble getting anything to work. Perhaps the system picks one user each time to smite.

I enjoyed everyones take on the theme and watching some of the work in progress and some I'm still scratching my head about--

My favorites in gallery order
BTW I also had trouble getting this to work the first time ... try these instructions:
1. Open an editor (e.g. word, notepad or pages) and open an empty document
2. Paste this text in the doc: http://challenges.smugmug.com/photos/xxx-Th.jpg
3. Select the image in the gallery and copy the text after the # (till the end) - e.g in the case below copy: 641526955_n46wh
http://challenges.smugmug.com/Other/DSS32/9388404_uZdYa#641526955_n46wh
4. replace the xxx (in the doc) with the copied text.
5. Copy the entire string in the doc, in this example: http://challenges.smugmug.com/photos/641526955_n46wh-Th.jpg
6. In your reply to the thread (that you are editing), select the image icon and paste the string (replace the http:// ) and select OK.
7. If it worked you should see the small image in your reply
8. Repeat for other images - just replace the text between photos/ and -Th.jpg in step 4

Maybe you'll find the egg if you keep trying.

Mine is to go to the gallery in one tab or window, have the feedback thread in another, and start my reply to the feedback thread with 10 instances of .
Then, I go through the gallery and click on the thumbnail of the image I want so that it is displayed, then click on the address bar and select the whole address, copy it, then go to the reply thread, paste it after the (no spaces!) and repeat with each selection.
Then close the gallery window/tab and go back to the reply post and change the first link from
{IMG]http://challenges.smugmug.com/Other/DSS32/9388404_uZdYa#640948749_EChC3-Th.jpg[/IMG} to
{IMG]http://challenges.smugmug.com/images/640948749_EChC3-Th.jpg[/IMG} (using only square brackets, of course)
Then copy the /images/ part of that first link and paste it into the other nine links in place of the /Other/DSS32/1234567_sTuFf#
and voila! Thumbnails!
Hope that makes sense, good luck to everyone having troubles!

Since quite a few have mentioned that they couldn't tell which way was up in my photo, here's the original, SOOC (unprocessed and rather banal) image:
The idea which promted the shoot was nothing AT ALL to do with where it went - I'd had an idea of looking down a ladder from a height. Sadly, I don't LIKE heights, nobody else was home so I was afraid to get out the ladder and go on the roof so I could shoot down it (yes, I'm just crazy enough that I did consider it, but even I have my limits ), but decided I'd "practice" on the stairs to see if I could make them look steep enough.
Once I shot the picture and cloned out the bottom and the rail and the visual clues to direction wer egone, it suddenly occurred to me that it looked completely different and rather confusing, so I posted it to see what y'all would think. And there we have it! I went with BW processing to make it a little moody (plus I just like bw )
(Irrelevant tangent, but FWIW: my contractor stick-built those stairs to our finished attic when we renovated 2 years ago, and they're still one of my favorite parts of the whole job. Yeah, they're narrow and a little steep but... you should have seen them BEFORE he rebuilt them!! Best part of all is they look like they've been there since 1928, just like the rest of the house )
divamum - I really enjoyed your story about how you created your shot and also the story behind the stairs. Very entertaining . . . and inviting because now I am curious about the rest of your house!! My brother bought an old farmhouse that was partly updated; he has still done a lot to it and I am always fascinated by the stories of progress (and, sometimes, the lack therof). I bet you have lots of stories too!
