Question about light modifiers

Not sure if this is the right location for this so mods feel free to move! With all these different brands of light modifiers and what not how can you be sure they attach to your strobe? Is it just based on the speedring attached to the modifier? I see all these softboxes and what not but not sure if they are interchangeable between every type of strobe or what!
Thanks,

Softboxes attatch to strobes with a speedring. Some other modifiers use different bases so they are made by the mfg. of the strobe to fit. For example I have a beauty dish for my strobes - made by the strobe manufacturer. But i also have other modifiers that have connectors made for my strobes by the modifier's manufacturer. And even from my manufacturer, they may adapt the modifier differently for my model of strobe. One of the reasons I chose my strobes (ProFoto) was because there are a wide variety of accessories from many manufacturers that will work with my lights. And if I were to change my lights to a more advanced Profoto system, my modifiers will work with the new system as well. I have accessories by Chimera, Westcott, and others - they all work together with the right adapters.!

Most modifier manufacturers will make connectors (speedrings) for most of the studio lighting strobes on the market.......but not the extremely low budget lights like britek and other extremely low budget lights.....but most will make speedrings for Profoto, White Lightning, Alien Bees, Speedotron, and other well known brands.......or the Light Manufacturer will have speedrings for various well known modifer brands...............it does take a bit o'research.....
